WorshipThe Inca worshipped many different gods, but especially Viracocha, who created all living things, Apu Illapu, the rain god, and Inti, the sun god. They would pray to gods during famine or drought, and would make animal and human sacrifices to the gods. As many as 4000 people were sacrificed upon the death of Huayna Capac in 1527. It wasn't uncommon for children as young as 6 to be sacrificed.
The Inca also had sacred sites and objects, which were known as huacas. Examples of huacas were shrines, important landmarks and sacred rituals. |
